Staying compliant with your HPCSA CPD requirements doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often — so you can focus on what matters.
How many CEUs do I need per year?
As a registered psychology professional, you are required to earn 30 CEUs within each 12-month cycle — 25 clinical CEUs and a minimum of 5 ethics, human rights, or health law CEUs. Each CEU is valid for 12 months from the date the activity was completed, so staying on top of your points throughout the year is important.
Is the content relevant to my specific psychology category?
Each PsyCampus package is built for a specific registration category — counselling psychology, industrial psychology, psychometry, registered counselling, and clinical psychology. The HPCSA allows practitioners to obtain CEUs within their own discipline or within another relevant discipline that applies to their professional practice.
Can I do CPD courses online?
Yes — online CPD activities such as e-learning courses, webinars, and virtual conferences are fully recognised by the HPCSA and offer flexibility to earn CEUs remotely at your own pace.
How are my CPD points submitted to the HPCSA?
Under current HPCSA regulations, providers submit points on behalf of practitioners. Once submitted, the HPCSA confirms the upload directly with you via automated message.
Can I carry over unused CPD points to the next year?
Under the current HPCSA rules, each CEU is valid for 12 months from the date the activity was completed. We recommend checking your CPD status regularly via the HPCSA self-service portal to ensure you remain compliant within each annual cycle.
What happens if I fall short of my CPD requirement?
The HPCSA requires you to maintain 30 CEUs on an ongoing 12-month basis. If you are concerned about your compliance status, we recommend checking your current standing directly via the HPCSA self-service portal or contacting the Professional Board for Psychology for guidance specific to your situation.
I'm a recent graduate — am I eligible for a discount?

Does HPCSA have guidelines on using AI tools in my practice?
Yes. In November 2025, the HPCSA released an updated Booklet 20 — Ethical Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence. It applies to all registered health practitioners, including psychologists. The guidelines are built around three pillars: ethics (patient autonomy and confidentiality), legal (POPIA compliance), and technical (validated, cybersecurity-compliant tools only). All practitioners are expected to be familiar with these requirements immediately — not at the next renewal cycle.
